Striking a new Chord

Just heard a podcast about a linguist (John McWhorter) in the New Republic that really struck a resonance with me. He speaks about how Barack Obama is "bidialectal" and that this is part of his attraction, particularly to a younger audience. Albeit not exclusively. Have a look at the article here. This is something i have heard in several speaches of his, but could not describe it. I believe it is something that does make him more "connected" to normal folk, and it does show a certain "coolness" about him.
