Our Dog
Unfortunately we had another "Dog incident" today. Our dog (Jesse) is a very likable bobtail-Appenzeller mix that is perfect at home. He listens, understands, "thinks" and is generally very likable. At home he understands all commands that we give him and immediately follows them. He loves to play and is extremely smart. When we go for walks he always tries to "control" the rest of the family and keeps us together. He loves to chase sticks and easily involves himself in any games.
However, he does have one problem, which as i describe it is pure fear. He has an immediate reaction to anyone that comes to our house, passes the house or remotely tries to threaten us. When someone comes to our house this reaction lasts for about 5 seconds, until he has had a chance to smell them, and i guess decide that there is no danger. Immediately his tales goes and wants to play with the new stranger.
However, he also has a hatred of a few small dogs on our street. And today this hatred materialized in an incident where Jesse bit one of the small dogs. We do not know the condition of the small dog yet, but it's probably not good. So we'll wait and see.
To be honest, i am a bit upset at Jesse, and simultaneously also feel a bit sad for him. He really is a very nice dog that needs lots of affection and generally tries to please his owners. But, I just wish we could find a way for him to just ignore the small "yacking" dogs around us.
